All Party Parliamentary Kidney Group Meetings The next APPKG Meeting, chaired by Jo White MP, will take place on Tuesday 16 June at 5pm, Portcullis House, Westminster. This meeting will focus on home dialysis and will bring together key stakeholders from across the kidney community. Over 30,000 people in the UK rely on dialysis to stay alive. Dialysis has a huge impact on people's lives as well as their physical and mental health. In-centre dialysis means three hospital visits per week for four-hour treatment sessions, plus travel and waiting time. People on home dialysis have been shown to have a better quality of life compared to those dialysing in hospital, possibly due to the more comfortable and flexible treatment schedule that home therapies can offer. Home dialysis also allows for longer and more frequent sessions that can lead to better outcomes, including survival, and quicker recovery. The APPKG meeting is an opportunity for MPs to hear directly from patients and experts about what needs to change to improve home dialysis access and support.Invite your MP to the next All-Party Parliamentary Kidney Group MeetingWe hope to have as many MPs as possible attend the meeting on Tuesday 16 June 2026. Previous MeetingsParliamentary Summit On Increasing Home Dialysis - 15th May 2025 This important event marked the culmination of the National Kidney Federation's five-year home dialysis campaign and brought together key stakeholders from across the kidney care community. The summit addressed significant inequities in home dialysis provision. Data from the UK Renal Registry has clearly demonstrated that patients who dialyse at home experienced substantially better outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The home dialysis campaign also revealed stark inequalities in access to home dialysis, particularly among patients from disadvantaged communities. This summit was a timely opportunity to brief Parliamentarians on these critical issues and secure their support for policy changes that could significantly improve outcomes for kidney patients across the UK. With the recent confirmation of all four officers for the APPKG, this summit offered a unique opportunity to translate the home dialysis campaign's findings into concrete policy changes.Guest speakers included:David Coyle - NKF Chair - Introduction & Welcome Message Kirit Modi MBE - NKF Honorary President Campaign to Increase Home DialysisKirit discussed the NKF Home Dialysis Campaign and worrying findings that patients on home therapies is decreasing 52 centres out of 67 centres with less than 20% patients on home dialysis in 2023, compared to 51 in 2019.
